Being a Groupie

Group maxims:

  1. Orderliness: not interrupting
  2. Truthfulness: speaking what you believe is true
  3. Open-mindedness: listen to views of others and be willing to change your mind
  4. Freedom of expression: not being ridiculed or embarrassed
  5. Equality of opportunity: no one person should dominate
  6. Respect
Self assessment questions:

  • Have the group talked to one another?
  • Have they listened to one another?
  • Have they responded to what others have said?
  • Have they considered different viewpoints?
  • Have they developed knowledge, understanding or judgement?

Community of enquiry:
  • teacher sits at same level
  • circle, using "talking shell"
  • look at who you're talking to
  • think-pair-share
  • student chairs discussion
  • devil's advocate
  • Mmmmmm...allow thinking time

How about if everyone in classroom, including teacher, has set of question cards in a fan based on Bloom's taxonomy?

Who?
What?
Where?
When?
How?
Describe…
